Leaving! The renowned phrase used by sports commentator Alí Khan to announce the beginning of a horse race was the only thing missing in the march of challenger Henrique Capriles Radonski held on Sunday in Caracas to enroll as presidential candidate for the election of next October 7.
While organizers convened a walk, the candidate for opposition Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) would jog under a rain of confetti and fireworks. Such was the pace for some of the 10 kilometers that led him and his supporters through different Caracas avenues to the National Electoral Council (CNE), downtown Caracas.
The challenger’s decision to engage in a marathon made quite a few compare his fitness with that of President Hugo Chávez, almost 18 years older than the Miranda state governor and diagnosed with a cancer of indeterminate nature.
The opposition march of Sunday was Capriles Radonski’s first rally during pre-electioneering.
